Are speed cameras an effective measure to change road users’ risky behaviour?
Using agent-based modelling to simulate and analyse a complex system
Task:
Choose a problem and an intervention that you would like to simulate and analyse using Agent-Based Modelling. Run the model several times, over various settings, and present key findings in a three-page report.
Summary:
Evidence suggests that reducing the mean speed of traffic on the road results in a decrease in the number of accidents and the severity of injuries caused. Speed cameras are employed as a means to enforce speed limits on the road. This report takes a look at the effectiveness of these cameras in changing the behaviour of road users, to encourage road safety, by analysing the results obtained from an Agent-Based Model used to simulate this intervention.
